What is the NSW EV Ready Building Program?

The NSW EV Ready Buildings Grant aims to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in apartment buildings across New South Wales. Eligible buildings must be located in NSW, registered under the Strata Schemes Development Act 2015, classified as class 2 under the National Building Code, and contain at least ten apartments with off-street parking.

The grant process includes two stages. Stage 1 involves a feasibility assessment, partially funded by the NSW Government, to determine the building’s EV charging needs. Stage 2 offers co-funding for up to 80% of infrastructure costs and 50% of software subscription costs excluding GST. Applicants must gather approvals, insurances, and commercial quotes before submitting their applications via the NSW Government’s SmartyGrants system, click here to access the form.

Round one is closed, successful applicants of round 1 can apply for stage two funding from 22nd July 2024. Owners Corporations must obtain and submit all required documents including at least two commercial quotes for the infrastructure installations.

The NSW Grant and How It Can Help the Surge?

Because of the rising numbers of electric vehicles’ (EV) sales every year, a shortage in EV chargers across NSW is becoming obvious. The NSW government developed a resolve for the surge of EVs across the state. They called it “EV Ready Building” program.

By the continuous adoption of electric vehicles among residents and tenants specifically in apartment buildings, the NSW government has ensured to give support in EV Charging by developing EV Ready Building Program

This program provides co-funding toward the installation of EV Charging infrastructure upgrades in apartment buildings, according to NSW Climate and Energy Action.

The NSW government will co-fund 80% (up to $80,000 ex GST) for approved electrical infrastructure and building upgrade equipment.

Requiring buildings such as wiring specifications and space allocation for EV Charging Stations, ensuring consistency and compliance with new enhancements.

And to be eligible for co-funding, it must have 4 existing EV chargers installed with less than 40 parking spaces, otherwise, the number of existing installed chargers may not exceed 10% of the number of parking spaces, according to the NSW Government

This can result in high quality retention and acquisition of residents and tenants in commercial and residential buildings, positioning New South Wales as a leader in sustainable urban development.
